Fame Fire Company was the FIRST fire company in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to become dual-certified in Advanced Vehicle/Machinery Rescue AND Surface Water Rescue. Fame's Swiftwater Rescue Technicians have rescued numerous people over the years and was selected to be the FIRST group of Rescue Technicians in Pennsylvania to test and become CERTIFIED to the National Professional Qualifications Board for Surface Water Rescue (NFPA 1006 Level 1 and Level 2). Fame also hosted the State's second Surface Water Technician Certification Test. Many Fame Rescue Technicians are ProBoard NFPA 1006 Certified Surface Water Technicians. We are capable of deploying two fully staffed and equipped rescue boats to multiple incidents.
Fame is recognized by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) as a TYPE 2A Swiftwater Rescue Team and is capable of being deployed anywhere in the Commonwealth at a moment's notice. Fame is one of two Level 2A Swiftwater teams in Southeastern Pennsylvania, and the ONLY TYPE 2A Team in Chester County. The resource typing attempts to mirror the FEMA Swiftwater Resource Typing Document. The intent of the program is to recognize and credential (type) emergency service organizations in swiftwater rescue. The program identifies the equipment and rescue hardware requirements of swiftwater rescue, and minimum personnel, training and education requirements. The guidelines are supported by NPFA 1006 and 1670 standards.
The Pennsylvania Swiftwater Voluntary Rescue Service Recognition (VRSR) Program was prepared by stakeholders including the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission, Office of the State Fire Commissioner, Pennsylvania Department of Health, and the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. The Voluntary Rescue Service Recognition (VRSR) program is intended to provide guidance and to develop recommendations for Pennsylvania swiftwater/flood evacuation including, but not limited to:
-Organizational development.
-Resource Identification and Categorization.
